An End in Sight, Chapter One

Shawn woke up in a bed that wasn't his, remembering only two things: his name,

Shawn Lancaster and his age, 14. As he woke up, he didn't open his eyes, trying to

remember where he was. When he couldn't remember that, he tried to remember where he

lived. Eventually, he began to panic. Who was he? Where was he? Who did he live with? What

were his friends names? Did he HAVE any friends? Then he noticed something else. There was

a strange humming noise coming from... well, everywhere. Also, his bed was vibrating ever

so slightly. He sighed. Time to open his eyes and face the world. He opened his eyes, and

looked at the ceiling. It was a strange grayish color, not unlike metal, but... shinier

somehow. He sat up and whacked his head on the ceiling. He groaned and flopped back into

his bed. apparently he was either high up, or the ceiling was very low. “Ok” he thought,

“lets try that again”. This time, he rolled out of bed, noticed a ladder, and fell right

past it, thumping to the floor. He heard a muffled snigger. Shawn whirled around, looking

for the source of the noise. There, in the far corner on a small wooden chair, was a girl.

She had fiery red hair, a splash of freckles across her face, and light blue eyes. She

looked to be about eight. Shawn took an angry step in her direction, then stopped. Instead

he let loose with a torrent of questions. “Where am I?” “How did I get here?” Who are

you?” The little girl held up a hand for silence. “All of your questions will be answered

in due time” she said. “My name is Lily. You are aboard an airship called the Blue Wind.

The year is 2343.” And hearing all of this, Shawn fainted.
